This book will give you enough information to get started, but keep your feet on the ground.To sum up, if you’re about to begin investing in property in the UK, you must read this book. But don’t expect to give up the day job if you’re thinking of venturing down that path today. It is just not possible to witness the growth in capital appreciation in property as we saw 5 years ago. This is the major factor that has allowed the author to accumulate 60 properties in the space of 6 years. He has simply remortgaged his properties as they have gone up in value and with each reduction in interest rates to further finance the buying of new properties. This would be impossible to do now. However, Buy to Let may still be an attractive proposition if you have access to large amounts of capital for the purpose of deposits and have a very long term investment horizon. But otherwise as bjk100 points out this book is mainly a cut and paste job.It offers “Seven” strategies for resedential property - of these only the “threshold strategy” is relevant to avoiding stamp duty - and it’s straightforward - if the price is near the threshold then offer the threshold and try to make up the difference with chattels.The rest of the “strategies” in this section are either cut-and-paste jobs, (the same text is repeated paragraph for paragraph in many sections) or it is advice on how to fund your stamp duty with your mortgage - and this advice is also repeated over an over in multiple sections. There is also a couple of small sections dedicated to people buying more than one property at once, or people who want to swap properties - I can’t see that these two circumstances are that common, and the advice offered is simple common sense.Please NOTE - a large portion of this book is dedicated to how to fund your stamp duty and other conveyancing costs through a LARGER MORTGAGE. So the title is a fraud, there is no avoidance, it merely explains how to pay the stamp duty by expanding your mortgage.Do buy it if you want to read about the “cash back strategy” where you negotiate the price with the seller and then buy for a higher price and the seller gives you cash back - which you can use to fund stamp duty etc… but note again NO TAX IS AVOIDED, only DEFERRED - with interest.Then the book goes on to cut and past all the advice all over again with minor trivial alterations for “commercial” property.The only reason I bought this book is because I’m desparate, I’m lookign at a couple of properties right now, listed at 269K, and the impending stamp duty lunacy is giving me heartburn.I didn’t expect much, but my optimism was engaged by the three other reviews - I now wonder if the author is installing some astro-turf at amazon. This is the major factor that has allowed the author to accumulate 60 properties in the space of 6 years. He has simply remortgaged his properties as they have gone up in value and with each reduction in interest rates to further finance the buying of new properties. This would be impossible to do now. However, Buy to Let may still be an attractive proposition if you have access to large amounts of capital for the purpose of deposits and have a very long term investment horizon. So the title is a fraud, there is no avoidance, it merely explains how to pay the stamp duty by expanding your mortgage.Do buy it if you want to read about the “cash back strategy” where you negotiate the price with the seller and then buy for a higher price and the seller gives you cash back - which you can use to fund stamp duty etc… but note again NO TAX IS AVOIDED, only DEFERRED - with interest.Then the book goes on to cut and past all the advice all over again with minor trivial alterations for “commercial” property.The only reason I bought this book is because I’m desparate, I’m lookign at a couple of properties right now, listed at 269K, and the impending stamp duty lunacy is giving me heartburn.I didn’t expect much, but my optimism was engaged by the three other reviews - I now wonder if the author is installing some astro-turf at amazon. Some chapters are written for property BUYERS and some for property SELLERS, making the book easy to read and understand. I have already used strategies in the book that have made a big difference to my property business. I highly recommend this book to anybody buying or selling property in the UK.     Financial spread betting is a leveraged tool that gives investors the opportunity to trade the financial markets without ever taking physical ownership of the underlying instrument. This means that the trader/investor can speculate in the direction of any financial instrument, whether it is specific shares, currencies, commodities or indices without ever owning them. In the financial markets there are standard contract sizes. For example for the FTSE 100 index contract the standard market size is £10. With financial spread betting the investor nominates his own stake size, for example £2 per point. The bet is settled as the difference between the purchase and the sell price.Financial Spreads is appealing to ever greater numbers of investors for several reasons, not least of which is the absence of capital gains tax on profits (unlike conventional share trading, where CGT applies to trading gains in many countries), and the lack of stamp duty on transactions (most interesting in the UK; strictly speaking, the transaction is a bet, rather than an investment - hence the name.) However, by its very nature financial spread betting is more risky than traditional, fixed odds betting, or conventional traditional share trading, where participants are usually a little more protected. If you judge wrong, you are likely to lose a great deal in the absence of a stop loss and any losses made on a spread bet cannot be offset against capital gains on ordinary investments.The costs associated with financial spread betting are included in the spread (the difference between the bid and the offer price). Therefore the wider the spread, the more you pay to trade. So when considering a company to spread bet always compare the spread. The good news about the spreads is that these are generally getting tighter due to increased competition and explosive growth as investors are beginning to realise the advantages of financial spread betting; thus making the system more efficient.Many people think that financial sprad betting is too risky. Subconsciously, they feel that investing in shares is ethically acceptable whereas betting has down market connotations and morally reprehensible.
